The Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) has been full of ups and downs for Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai Super Kings. The franchise has two wins in four games. The five-time champions are placed fourth in the points table.

In the roller coaster journey of CSK, many fans have demanded that there should be some changes in the batting line-up and even questions were raised regarding the position where MS Dhoni should bat.

MS Dhoni played a sensational knock against Delhi Capitals at Vizag. Batting at No.8, the veteran batter played an explosive knock of 37* off just 16 balls.

While the fans and many former cricketers demanded that Dhoni should move up the batting order maybe to No 5 or 6, Michael Clarke thinks that the veteran should stick to his position. He also praised Dhoni, calling him the 'best finisher the game has ever seen', and stated that the veteran should bat at No. 8.

Michael Clarke's Opinion On MS Dhoni's Role As A Finisher

MS Dhoni, the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman, is one of the finest finisher the game has ever seen and he should not be promoted up the order to bat. He should bat as a finisher and Chennai should use his experience to finish the game.

While speaking on the Star Sports panel ahead of Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders clash, the former Australian cricketer propounded that Dhoni should continue to finish the game for the franchise and the team doesn't have to bring him up the batting order.

"He(MS Dhoni) doesn’t need to. That’s never been his role in any format of the game. There might have been occasions when he goes up the order. But, generally, he is a finisher. He is probably the best finisher the game has ever seen. So he doesn’t have to change that. The other thing about having MS Dhoni in your team, that should give the players in front of him feel confident, and maybe take a few risks a little bit earlier. He has got enough jobs, and he has done it for a long period of time. It’s time for other players to step up," Michael Clarke said while speaking on the same panel.

Chennai Super Kings will host Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who are unbeaten in the ongoing edition, in match 22 of the Indian Premier League on April 8, 2024.
