Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) walloped Punjab Kings by four wickets in a run-chase of 215 at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on May 19. Playing their final league game of the IPL 2024 season, the outcome helped the ‘Orange Army’ displace the Rajasthan Royals from the number two position on the points table.

SRH opener Abhishek Sharma cracked a match-winning half-century in the game, and was fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’.

During the post-match presentation ceremony, the youngster also received a significant praise from legendary Australian fast bowler and SRH captain Pat Cummins.

After the match, winning skipper Pat Cummins praised the rest of his SRH teammates for “gelling” up with each other.

The 31-year-old further hailed young opening batter Abhishek Sharma for pulling off yet another run-chase masterclass this IPL 2024 season, as well as summarised the all-round abilities of Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Following Travis Head’s departure for a first-ball duck, Abhishek punched out 66 runs from just 28 balls to set up SRH’s comprehensive win in a 215 chase. Reddy, meanwhile, scored a rapid 25-ball 37 after SRH’s opening setback.

“It's been great. I didn't knew much guys coming into the season but there have been many great guys and we have gelled well. I have said it a few times. I won't be happy bowling to him (Abhishek Sharma). He is a clean striker of the ball and runs down the track against the spinners. Thankfully, he is on our side. Nitish is a class player. Seems like he sums up the game pretty well and he is a perfect fit in the top order.”

Pat Cummins also expressed his excitement of qualifying for the IPL 2024 playoffs.

“Really satisfying and exciting to make the playoffs. Most of the guys haven't played in the finals and me too. We will know which game we will be playing in a few hours.”

The IPL 2024 playoffs will commence on May 21 with the first qualifier at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
