Former Pakistani fast bowler Mohammed Amir recently opened up on his future in the international cricket circuit and ruled out immediate chances of a comeback in the Pakistan national team.

Amir, in a bid to rebrand his tarnished image after a spot-fixing scandal, made a comeback for Pakistan in 2015. He picked up from where he left off and produced many awe-inspiring spells. The Champions trophy brilliance against India still remains Amir’s career highlight performance.

However, a year later, things went downhill when Pakistan witnessed an overhaul of the coaching staff. After Misbah-Ul-Haq and Waqar Younis took over, Amir alleged discrimination and mental harassment.

Not only that, the fast bowlers claimed efforts were being made by the new management to tarnish his image. Subsequently, Amir retired from international cricket in 2020 and moved to the United Kingdom for better opportunities.

Amir To Don Pakistan Colours In Future?

Meanwhile, Mohammed Amir, currently featuring in International League T20 2024 (ILT20 2024) for Desert Vipers, candidly opened up on the future in the international circuit.

Amir says he has moved on and has different priorities in life. Also, the three-year-long gap from the international system is difficult to comprehend.

Amir also pointed out the constantly changing dynamics of Pakistan cricket. He says the PCB management undergoes significant changes almost every month now. Thus, it’s unfeasible for him to make a comeback under these circumstances.

“At the moment, I have moved on. I have different things in my life to do. Three years is a long period out of the international system. If you look at the Pakistan system right now, it is changing every single month, so you never know what is coming. For me this debate is closed. After three years out, I don’t think it would be a sensible decision for me to come back. For now, at least. I don’t know what will happen in the next few years,”  said Amir.

However, Mohammed Amir kept the doors open for the future.

That being said, Amir was rumored to have obtained UK citizenship and allegedly planned to feature in IPL. However, no progress has been made on that front as Amir continues to offer his services in multiple franchise leagues. He also occasionally visits Pakistan for TV shows.

Notably, Amir is playing alongside the current Pakistan T20 format captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, in the ILT20 2024 season for Desert Vipers. The duo wreaked havoc with the new ball and picked four wickets to guide the Vipers to a convincing victory.
