Ahead of the pivotal T20 World Cup 2024, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh spoke highly of his best mate Rohit Sharma to state that Rohit is the perfect captain India needs to win the upcoming ICC trophy.

Yuvraj Singh, the official global ambassador for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, recently shed light on India’s campaign and said that captain Rohit Sharma will play a decisive role as a captain as well as an opener.

The former all-rounder opined that Rohit Sharma deserves a World Cup trophy more than anyone else and as a sensible captain who can take sound decisions under pressure, Rohit will determine India’s trajectory in the upcoming ICC event.

"I really want to see Rohit Sharma with a World Cup trophy and a World Cup medal. He really deserves it. I think we need a really good and sensible captain who takes decisions well under pressure. And he's the one to take them. He was the captain when we lost in the (Cricket World Cup) 50-over final (in 2023). He has won five IPL trophies as a captain. I think we need somebody like him to captain India," Yuvraj Singh told ICC.

Not only that, Yuvraj Singh endorsed Rohit Sharma’s down to earth nature after 17 years of success in international cricket. Yuvraj added that they poked Rohit in his junior year for his broken English.

But yet, his fun-loving attitude stayed the same, and over the years, the duo became close friends.

"Very poor English. Very funny guy. From the streets of Borivali (in Mumbai), we always tease him. But a great guy at heart. The more success he's had, he has never changed as a person. That’s the beauty of Rohit Sharma. Fun-loving, always having fun with the guys, A great leader on the park and one of my closest friends from cricket," he added.

Rohit Sharma will be playing his ninth T20 World Cup this year and as a captain, his responsibilities will be doubled.
