'Full Marks To Rohit' - Shastri Lauds Indian Captain After Pakistan Collapse

Pakistan's horrendous collapse underlined the brilliance of Rohit Sharma's captaincy and his excellent use of the terrific Indian bowling attack during the high-voltage ICC World Cup 2023 league stage encounter played in Ahmedabad on Saturday (October 11), said former head coach Ravi Shastri.

The veteran commentator lauded Rohit's astute leadership under pressure against India's historic arch-rivals in front of a packed 1.2 lakh capacity crowd, hailing him as the understated key figure in hosts reducing the opposition to 191 all out after they were placed comfortably at 135/2 at one stage.

Rohit brought his impressive understanding and expertise of the situation into play at a critical point of the game after Pakistan rallied on the shoulders of skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan to reach an increasingly threatening post for India.

Shastri Raves Over Rohit Sharma's Captaincy

After controlling the game nicely with his spin twins Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, Rohit trusted Mohammed Siraj even as the pacer was struggling with his consistency and the Hyderabad seamer repaid the vote of confidence with the wicket of Babar just when he was looking set for a long haul after making 50 off 58 deliveries.

Having found the desired breakthrough and reopening into the Pakistan batting line-up, Rohit asked his main wicket-takers Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep to go for the kill. The two limited-overs giants didn't disappoint their skipper and bagged two wickets apiece for India to regain full ascendancy.

Five of the six Indian bowlers used in the afternoon picked up two wickets each, which reflected brightly on Rohit's captaincy and how he shuffled his resources intelligently to trigger a horrific collapse for Pakistan. The visitors lost their last eight wickets for just 36 runs to be dismissed for a paltry 191 on a dry Ahmedabad surface.

"Full marks to the Rohit Sharma. He marshals his resources extremely well," Shastri said during the mid-innings break for Star Sports after India bundled out the Pakistanis when Babar's men were looking set for a score in excess of 270-280, which could've put India on the backfoot on a tricky pitch.
