Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared his concerns about Pakistan's unstable situation, expressing sympathy for a once-great cricketing nation now struggling with uncertainty. This comes after Babar Azam stepped down as captain for the second time in 10 months.

Pakistan Cricket currently finds itself in a deep pit of mess as shocking defeats and constant leadership changes has led to severe instability within the board and the team alike.

In a latest setback, Babar Azam stepped down as Pakistan's white ball format captain for the second time. He initially relinquished his leadership role in December last year and Shaheen Afridi was given white-ball format reigns only for Babar to be reappointed for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

However, following a series of personal failures, Babar Azam gave in to the public pressure and tendered his resignation.

Ravi Ashwin is against Pakistan's leadership drama

Amid the musical chair situation, Indian acclaimed off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin voiced his concerns over the dire state of Pakistan cricket. 

“I am speaking the truth when I say that the current state of Pakistan cricket and the phase they are going through makes me feel a little sorry. Because some of the most exceptional cricketers have played for Pakistan, and it was such a great team. If you look at it from a cricketer's perspective, this is a proud cricketing nation. And where are they lacking in skill? They have so many skilled players,” Ashwin said in a video.

Ashwin criticised the "musical chairs" approach to captaincy, stating that the frequent changes have left players more focused on their individual game than the team's success. He noted that Pakistan hasn't won a Test match in almost three years, leading to instability within the dressing room.

"And sometimes, their whole musical chairs situation is truly something. The music keeps playing, and they just think about grabbing a chair; that's how it feels. What would I think as a cricketer? Should I focus on my game or on the team? Every cricketer will be so unstable inside the dressing room that he will start thinking about himself and will think less about the team," he added.

PCB is yet to pay contracted players' salary

In the latest gaffe, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is yet to pay its contracted players' salaries, both men and women included. As per local media, the likes of Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan and many others are awaiting their pending four months of salary. This comes after PCB initiated a review of contracts following Pakistan's debacle in ICC events and home Test series.
