Virat Kohli’s sudden retirement from Test cricket last week sent shockwaves through the cricketing world, with the legend confirming his decision via social media. However, former India batter and ex-KKR player Manoj Tiwary has now urged Kohli to reconsider.
Manoj Tiwary suggested the decision might have been rushed despite reports indicating the star had deliberated it for weeks. Elaborating on Kohli's decision, Manoj Tiwary also urged him to reverse his decision.
Tiwary Makes Shocking Plea to Virat Kohli!
Kohli, who reportedly informed the BCCI and mentors like Ravi Shastri about his plans a month prior, stepped away with 9,230 Test runs and a legacy as India’s most successful captain.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Manoj Tiwary speculated Virat Kohli might have acted impulsively, drawing parallels to his own brief retirement U-turn in domestic cricket.
“I felt a bit sad... Kohli has kept Test cricket alive. He could have easily not given it the required importance... I’ll ask him to close his eyes and take the retirement back as soon as possible. Sometimes you face a time when a brain fade can happen... It’s possible he had that too. It'll bring back the happiness on the faces of all cricket fans. Even I did that. I took back retirement from first-class cricket after just five days and then played for Bengal, trying to win the Ranji Trophy, There’s a lot of cricket left in him,” Tiwary told Cricbuzz.
Kohli’s Test Legacy
Virat Kohli’s tenure as India’s Test captain remains one of the most impactful in modern cricket. Under his leadership, India played 68 Tests, winning 40 of them, the most by any Indian skipper. Among the many highlights of his captaincy reign was India’s historic maiden Test series win on Australian soil in 2018–19, a feat that etched his name in cricketing folklore.
Kohli’s contribution extended far beyond leadership. With the bat, he amassed 9,230 runs in Tests at an impressive average of 46.85. His tally includes 30 centuries and 31 fifties, underlining his consistency and hunger for runs across conditions.
Perhaps the most defining aspect of Kohli’s legacy was the transformation he brought to the Indian team. His aggressive mindset, relentless pursuit of excellence, and focus on fitness helped turn India into a formidable force in world cricket, especially in overseas conditions.
