Each game of the ongoing IPL has become unforgettable. The excitement soared to the sky in the last encounter between the Rajasthan Royals and the Lucknow Super Giants. In a classic last-over thriller, Lucknow Super Giants sealed the victory.
While bowling in the last over, Avesh Khan showcased his brilliance and sealed the victory for the side. His clutch performance had fans drawing comparisons with Mitchell Starc’s heroics. But the fiery pacer had the perfect reply.
Avesh Khan Opens Up On Comparison With Starc
The Lucknow Super Giants were struggling with their form in the ongoing season. But in the last match, they probably brought out their best game under pressure. Avesh Khan’s death over heroics saved the match as he successfully defended 9 runs in the last over. His successful dismissal of Shimron Hetmyer in the last over ignited the drama, and LSG registered a thrilling 2-run win.
In a similar nail-biter, DC’s Mitchell Starc had pushed the game into a Super Over with his last-over magic. As fans began drawing parallels between the two pacers, Avesh humbly brushed off the comparisons, saying he wants to be ‘a good Avesh Khan’.
“I don't want to become Mitchell Starc, I just want to become a good Avesh Khan. Yorker is my strength and I try to execute it. If I bowl with clarity, I execute it well. I don't bowl looking at the scorecard. I didn't want to concede a boundary in the first three balls. And the batters would be under pressure,” he said.
The Last Over Drama
As the Rajasthan Royals needed just 9 runs in the last over, Rishabh Pant handed over the ball to Avesh Khan, and that decision turned out to be a game-changing one. After dismissing Hetmyer in the last over, Avesh was on his way to dismiss Shubham Dubey but Miller dropped the catch under pressure.
After that dramatic survival, RR just needed 4 runs in 1 ball. But Avesh’s last-ball brilliance sealed the narrow 2-run victory for the Super Giants. After securing the thrilling win, Avesh Khan reflected on the moment.
“When the ball went up in the air, I thought he would catch it for sure. After he dropped, just 4 runs were needed, there were a few doubts in my mind, one outside edge or inside edge could go for a boundary. I told myself to bowl a yorker on middle-leg. I think about the team, I just wanted to win the match. This is a big tournament, I will try to bowl the same way in the remaining matches.”
After the thrilling win in the last clash, Lucknow Super Giants entered the top 4 with 10 points. With 5 wins in 8 matches, they are currently standing on the 4th position of the points table.
