In a recent revelation, Kolkata Knight Riders’ pace spearhead Anrich Nortje delved into the team’s ambitions for IPL 2025, strategic adaptations in the league, and broader challenges in international cricket. With the playoffs looming, the South African speedster emphasized KKR’s focus.

Nortje shared that KKR is focusing on taking each game as it comes while navigating the pressures of the tournament. He also highlighted tactical shifts driven by rules like the Impact Player, which have reshaped team strategies.

Anrich Nortje Opens up On KKR's Odds

When asked whether Nortje thinks KKR could qualify for the playoffs or not, the pacer remained positive with his answer.

"Yes. Definitely. The way we are going about it is just to focus on every game that is coming up. Not gonna focus more than one game or one ball at a time, so that would most probably be the strategy. It is definitely doable and I don't see why not," Nortje revealed in an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times.

Nortje lauded the Indian veteran’s influence, calling him “a great leader” and described what it is like to play under Rahane while praising him.

"He is a great individual. He is a great person. I have really enjoyed my time with him. he is probably one of the most professional player there is. Seeing his leadership from the side is very good. The way he understands the game is spot on! He is a great leader!" Nortje stated.

While discussing the ICC’s rule change, Anrich Nortje noted, “Having saliva back helps bowlers have something to work with. It’s a small advantage, but it makes a difference in maintaining the ball.”

Regarding the Impact player rule, he acknowledged the tactical shift, stating, “All team dynamics now change because of Impact Player. Deeper batting lineups now force bowlers to be sharper till the end. The game is now more aggressive because of them.”

Speaking of Nortje, the pacer hasn't played many games in the purple jersey. He played only one match against Punjab Kings where he bagged 1 wicket and kept the economy rate under eight.

Kolkata Amidst Tough Battle For Playoffs

With that being said, KKR, who now sits at the 6th position on the points table will need to win the rest of their games if they want a place in the playoffs. Alongside all the wins, the NRR will also affect their chances as RCB, PBKS, MI and GT currently top the charts.
