Sanju Samson's omission from the upcoming three-match One Day International series against Australia left several onlookers baffled as the player was already left out of India's ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 squad.

India selectors have opted to go ahead with youngster Ishan Kishan as a backup wicketkeeper to KL Rahul, who is back from an injury. Samson boasts of a decent ODI record, averaging 55.7, scoring 390 runs and has been in the Indian setup since 2021.

Former India opener Robin Uthappa first expressed his disappointment over Samson's non-selection for ODIs and urged the selectors to add the Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain to the Asian Games squad.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former RR batter explained how continuity is important, and that Samson should fly to Hangzhou.

Here's what Uthappa said'

"I find it wrong to not have Sanju Samson in the squad. He has done well whenever he has gotten an opportunity in ODIs. Yes, he has been inconsistent in T20Is, but his performances in ODIs have been quite good. The justification would be that he won't be in the XI, so why keep him in the squad?

But I think it is important to have continuity. In the case of Sanju, they haven't done that. He was in the reserves for the Asia Cup but wasn't picked for the Australia series. At least send him to the Asian Games. It is very normal to be dejected as a player when you don't get support despite doing well."

India begin its Asian Games campaign on October 1, and have earned direct qualification into the Quater Finals, with Ruturaj Gaikwad leading the side.
