Even the mightiest teams have their flaws, and CSK is no exception. Despite being a dominant force in the tournament, they’ve often battled inconsistency, setting unwanted records. In this article, we will explore the top five lowest totals of the Chennai Super Kings.

5. 109 vs MI In IPL 2019 In Chennai

Known for one of the fiercest rivalries, the encounter between CSK and MI always excites the fans. But IPL 2019 has seen a different side of the rivalry, where the Chennai Super Kings struggled with their form.

While chasing down the 156 runs, the side struggled with some series batting woes. Apart from Murali Vijay’s 38, no other CSK batters made an impact in front of MI’s mighty bowling. In the end, DJ Bravo and Mitchell Santner tried to turn the tide, but that was too late. Bowled out for just 109, CSK recorded their fifth-lowest total in tournament history. 

4. 109 vs RR In IPL 2008 In Jaipur

Even in the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008, the Chennai Super Kings registered another forgettable batting performance against the Rajasthan Royals. While batting first in the clash, Chennai had a horrible start after losing both openers within the first over. And the setback continued from there.

Albie Morkel’s 42 and Suresh Raina’s 27-run innings couldn’t save the team as the RR bowlers went berserk over them. RR’s bowlers tore through the lineup, leaving CSK struggling for answers. Bundled out for just 109, they recorded their fourth-lowest total in IPL history.

3. 103/9 vs KKR In IPL 2025 In Chennai

In the IPL 2025, the CSK’s ongoing struggle is putting them on the back foot. And their woes continued against the Kolkata Knight Riders. While batting first, Rachin Ravindra walked away scoring only 4 runs. Conversely, Conway departed, scoring only 12 runs. Vijay Shankar played a crucial 29-run innings.

But the other batters struggled to make an impact against KKR’s dominating bowling. Shivam Dubey stepped in and played an unbeaten innings of 31 runs in just 29 balls. But after ending their innings in just 103 runs, they scripted their third-lowest total in IPL.

2. 97 vs MI In IPL 2022 in Mumbai

In the IPL 2022, the Chennai Super Kings had another heartbreaking memory of scoring their second-lowest total of the tournament. While opening the innings against the Mumbai Indians, the CSK side lost the first four wickets within the fifth over. After that, Rayudu also departed on 10 runs.

Coming to bat as the number 6 batter, MS Dhoni played an unbeaten innings of 36 runs in 33 balls. Along with that, Bravo added 12 runs. But the MI’s bowling lineup shattered CSK’s batting lineup by restricting them to just 97 runs.

1. 79 vs MI In IPL 2013 In Mumbai

As the CSK vs MI rivalry added an extra flavour to the IPL world, CSK had one of their most forgettable memory of registering their lowest ever total. While chasing down a target of 140 runs, CSK’s batting woes hit them hard. As Michael Hussey tried to stabilize their innings, consecutive dismissals put them on the back foot.

After Hussey’s dismissal in 22 runs, Dhoni and Jadeja added 10 and 20 runs. Their effort fell short in front of MI’s destructive bowling. CSK crumbled under pressure, managing only 79 runs. It remains one of their most forgettable performances in IPL history.
