As a captain, he led Bangladesh in the 2011 World Cup, where they registered wins over England, Ireland, and Netherlands. His most glorious performance came in the 2019 World Cup, where the left-handed middle-order batter singlehandedly kept Bangladesh's batting afloat. Shakib Al Hasan's arrival in the Test arena started slow, but within a few months became an instant hit. In 2008, he recorded the best bowling figures in the Test for Bangladesh, claiming seven for 36 against New Zealand.
After talking captaincy in 2011, Hasan started to scale new heights in Test cricket as well scoring runs consistently, and became the first Bangladesh batter to score a red-ball ton and claim five wickets in an innings. In 2014, Hasan achieved a rare landmark in the Test, becoming the fourth player to score 100 and claim 10 wickets in the same match.
After regaining captaincy in 2017, he proceeded to become the fourth international bowler to claim five-for against all the-then Test playing nations. Injuries, ban, and personal issues kept Hasan away from playing many Tests between 2020-2021.

After going unsold for two seasons, Shakib Al Hasan made his IPL debut in 2011 after getting purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). His bowling shone in the first two seasons, but his batting really peaked in 2014, when the all-rounder finished with 227 runs, playing a crucial role in KKR winning their second-ever IPL title.
After a few underperforming seasons, KKR released Hasan, who then went to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2018.
Hasan went back to KKR in 2021 however, after the suspension of the league due to COVID-19, the all-rounder returned home and this was the last time he was seen in IPL.
