Widely recognised as one of the greatest all-rounders in global cricket, Bangladesh Shakib Al Hasan's skills as both a batter and bowler put him leaps above the rest.

Born on 24 March 1987, Hasan displayed cricketing prowess quite early in his childhood and was called upon by various villages to play locally.  As a youngster, Hasan tried bowling fast and experimented with spin bowling, which later became his main weapon. 

As a player, leader, and role model, his impact on Bangladesh cricket has been immense. His on-field aggressive approach has instilled fearless in upcoming players. The legend has often been at the forefront of change in Bangladesh cricket off-the-field as well, were he was seen standing for a hike in players' salary as well.

A tape-ball player, Shakib Al Hasan's first run-in with a cricket ball was a success while turning up for Islampur, and soon found himself in training at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan for six months. Having made his First-Class debut in 2005, the all-rounder shined with his batting and was soon playing under-19 cricket for Bangladesh. 

Riding back on stellar domestic showings, Hasan played his maiden ODI for Bangladesh in 2006.

A T20I debut followed soon, as the all-rounder displayed an outstanding showing against Zimbabwe.  In a span of one year, Hasan turned up in whites for Bangladesh, taking on India in a Test in 2007.

Shakib Al Hasan was granted a rookie BCB central contract, the player was included in Bangladesh's 2007 World Cup squad. The highly talented player stockpiled 202 runs and picked up seven wickets while playing an important role in the win over India. 

Hasan's breakthrough tournament was the ICC T20 World Cup 2007, where his bowling outfoxed opponents and showed the world how a spinner can be effective in the shortest format as well.

The Bangladesh legend made his T20I debut in 2006 and found a liking to the format, given the importance laid down on an all-rounder. His spin, which included a lot of flight and guile, managed to make a mark in the T20 World Cup 2007. The all-rounder became the first Bangladesh player to claim four wickets in a match during the coveted competition. 

The all-rounder's batting really came into this own in 2012, when he started displaying more aggression and intent in T20 format. Over the years, Hasan has added maturity and experience to his T20I style, which has elevated his stature in the format with every passing year. 

Returning to cricket in 2021 after serving a ban, Hasan has been unstoppable in the shortest format, where his main focus remains.

The all-rounder first blossomed in ODIs before making a name for himself in Test and T20Is.  The bowling failed to create much impact on the international level early on, where the batting side of Hasan's all-rounding skills dominated.

 In 2008, Hasan's bowling started to reach new heights, with the management opting to play the player as a specialist. With confidence in his bowling, Hasan's batting bloomed in subsequent series. Hasan became the world's number-one ranked ICC All-Rounder in January 2009.

 As a captain, he led Bangladesh in the 2011 World Cup, where they registered wins over England, Ireland, and Netherlands. His most glorious performance came in the 2019 World Cup, where the left-handed middle-order batter singlehandedly kept Bangladesh's batting afloat. Based on his ODI exploits between September 2011 and December 2020, the Bangladesh player was named in the ICC Men's ODI Team of the Decade.

 Shakib Al Hasan's arrival in the Test arena started slow, but within a few months became an instant hit. In 2008, he recorded the best bowling figures in the Test for Bangladesh, claiming seven for 36 against New Zealand.

 After talking captaincy in 2011, Hasan started to scale new heights in Test cricket as well scoring runs consistently, and became the first Bangladesh batter to score a red-ball ton and claim five wickets in an innings. In 2014, Hasan achieved a rare landmark in the Test, becoming the fourth player to score 100 and claim 10 wickets in the same match.

After regaining captaincy in 2017, he proceeded to become the fourth international bowler to claim five-for against all the-then Test playing nations. Injuries, ban, and personal issues kept Hasan away from playing many Tests between 2020-2021.

He last played a test match against India in 2024. It is important to note that he had a desire to play his final test for Bangladesh in front of his home crowd in Mirpur. But due to several factors, including security concerns, he was not able to return to his country.

After going unsold for two seasons, Shakib Al Hasan made his IPL debut in 2011 after getting purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). His bowling shone in the first two seasons, but his batting really peaked in 2014, when the all-rounder finished with 227 runs, playing a crucial role in KKR winning their second-ever IPL title. 

After a few underperforming seasons, KKR released Hasan, who then went to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2018. 

Hasan went back to KKR in 2021 however, after the suspension of the league due to COVID-19, the all-rounder returned home and this was the last time he was seen in IPL.
