Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is set to rejoin Australia's World Cup squad in Mumbai on November 5. Marsh had returned to his home in Perth after a league game against New Zealand in Dharamsala due to personal reasons.

Cricket Australia (CA) had issued a statement at the time, stating that Marsh had left the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 due to personal reasons, and the timeline for his return to the squad would be confirmed later.

Marsh's teammate, Marcus Stoinis, shared that he received a text from Marsh, assuring that he would be back soon and committed to returning to help the team win the World Cup.

On Saturday evening, Cricket Australia confirmed that Marsh would be returning to India the following day, reuniting with the ODI squad in preparation for the crucial match against Afghanistan in Mumbai scheduled for Tuesday.

"Mitch Marsh will re-join the Australian squad in Mumbai tomorrow evening," said Cricket Australia in a media release.

The true reason for Marsh's sudden departure to Perth was the passing of his grandfather, Ross, which occurred on Friday. To acknowledge his grandfather's death, the Australian team wore black armbands during their league match against arch-rivals England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 4.

Despite Marsh's absence, Australia secured a comprehensive 33-run victory against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Marsh had been in good form, scoring 225 runs in six matches, including a century against Pakistan and a half-century against Sri Lanka. He had initially opened the innings but was moved to number three after Travis Head returned against New Zealand in Dharamsala. It is likely that Marsh will continue to bat at the same position in the upcoming match against Afghanistan.

Australia, a five-time World Cup champion, began their campaign with two consecutive losses but rebounded impressively with four consecutive victories. They currently occupy the third spot on the points table, trailing South Africa and India. Australia aims to secure a spot in the semi-finals when they face Afghanistan in their next match on November 7.
