Naveen-ul-Haq Takes a Political Dig At Australia Before Crucial World Cup Clash

Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq has found himself at the centre of controversies quite a number of times in the past few years, more notably against Indian superstar Virat Kohli, which eventually got cleared during the ongoing World Cup 2023. However, there's another major battle which Naveen has been a part of, and this was against the entire Australian side.

Back in 2021, Cricket Australia (CA) postponed the Test series against Afghanistan and later cancelled the three-match ODI series that was supposed to be played in March next year, which led to Naveen playing in the Big Bash League (BBL) for Sydney Sixers in that edition to pull out of the tournament with immediate effect.

All this happened because CA took a stand against the Taliban regime and the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB)'s decision not to allow women to play cricket or any kind of sport, mentioning it as a violation of human rights.

This caused massive frustration among the entire Afghan side as premier spinner Rashid Khan also expressed his disappointment over the issue, calling to keep the politics aside.

Now, Naveen-ul-Haq has again hit back at the Aussies regarding their stand by putting out an Instagram story where he mentioned that it would be fascinating to see if CA continue with their policy or play to earn two crucial points when they meet in the WC this year.

"Refusing to play the bilateral series, now it will be interesting to see Cricket Australia stand in the World Cup #Standards #Humanrights or 2 points."

Interestingly, last year, during the T20 World Cup 2022, Australia agreed to play Afghanistan, saying that they are ready to face them during the multilateral events.

However, considering this, we will have to wait till 7th November when Afghanistan and Australia clash in a very crucial World Cup game with a semi-final spot at stake.
