India are currently playing against the West Indies in the second Test match of their two-match series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. India won the toss and decided to bowl first. The West Indies team made two changes for this match, Anderson Phillip and Tevin Imlach came in for Johann Layne and Brandon King.

After losing the first Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium by an innings and 140 runs, the West Indies wanted to shake things up. That brings us to the question, who exactly is Anderson Phillip?

Anderson Phillip's cricket career so far

Anderson Phillip is a right-arm fast bowler from Trinidad and Tobago. He made his Test debut for the West Indies against Bangladesh in 2022. Although he hasn’t had a big impact in international cricket yet, he has shown promise with his speed and determination. So far, in his short Test career of three matches, Phillip has taken four wickets with an economy rate of 4.32 runs per over.

In domestic (first-class) cricket, however, Phillip has been much more impressive. Over several seasons, he has taken 155 wickets in 83 innings, maintaining a strong economy rate of 3.70. His performances in the local circuit earned him a call-up to the national team.

Phillip also plays One Day Internationals (ODIs). He was first added to the West Indies ODI squad in March 2021 for the series against Sri Lanka, where he made his debut on March 14, 2021. In ODIs so far, he has taken four wickets in five innings. He hasn’t played a T20 International yet, but in domestic T20s, he has grabbed 10 wickets in 18 innings.

While Phillip is mainly known for his bowling, he can also contribute a bit with the bat. In three Test matches, he has scored 74 runs at an average of 24.66, quite decent for a lower-order player.
