Former Pakistan speedster, Mohammad Amir is on the verge of acquiring a British passport, courtesy of his marriage to Narjis Khan, a British citizen and lawyer. Having relocated to the United Kingdom in 2020, Amir's imminent passport acquisition will open doors for him to potentially represent England in international cricket.

Amir opens up on playing in the IPL with British passport

In a recent interview with ARY News, Amir provided insights into his future prospects in international cricket, including the intriguing potential of participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) under his forthcoming British passport.

Amir made his stance clear, firmly stating that he harbours no intentions of donning the England jersey. His allegiance lies with Pakistan, having already represented the nation on the cricketing stage.

When queried about the IPL, the southpaw cautiously stated the need to take one step at a time. Acknowledging the fluid nature of the future, Amir maintained that it would be premature to contemplate his participation in the IPL that is slated for the year 2024.

"First, I will not play for England. I have played for Pakistan. Second (talking of IPL), there is one more year to go. What will be the scenario at that time....I always say that I go step by step. We don't know what will happen tomorrow and I start thinking about playing IPL in 2024," said Amir.

Elaborating further, the left-arm fast bowler emphasized that his decision regarding cricketing opportunities would be contingent upon the best available prospects at the time of his passport acquisition.

"When I get my passport ...whatever the best opportunity will be and what I will get...I will avail it," added Amir.

Should Amir successfully attain his British passport in the coming year and subsequently register for the IPL Auction, he will join a select group of Pakistan players to have got the experience of playing in the cash-rich league.
