Australia's Usman Khawaja has been in the limelight across both Tests of the ongoing Ashes 2023 series in England. Khawaja, who is the leading run-getter in the series, was involved in a verbal spat with Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) members on Day 5 of the Lord's Test while heading to the Australian dressing room.

Khawaja, along with David Warner were seen having animated discussions with MCC members in the long room, where eventually cops had to intervene. The 36-year-old has expressed his disappointment over MCC members, who were disrespectful towards the player.

Speaking to Channel Nine, Khawaja maintained that Lord's is one of his favourite grounds to play, but the language used by some members on Sunday left a bad taste.

Here's what Khawaja said

“It was really disappointing. Lord’s is one of my favourite places to come. There’s always respect shown at Lord’s, particularly in the Members Pavilion in the Long Room, but there wasn’t today. It was very disappointing. The crowd is great, particularly the members are great, and some of the stuff that was coming out of the members’ mouths is really disappointing and I wasn’t just going stand by and cop it. So I just talked to a few of them.

A few of them were throwing out some pretty big allegations and I just called them up on it and they kept going, and I was like, well, this is your membership here. So I’m just pointing them out. But it’s pretty disrespectful, to be honest. I just expect a lot better from the members.”

The MCC have since apologised to the Australian Cricket Team for the long-room incident, and have ordered severe action against "three members", who were involved after inquiry.

Australia ended up winning the highly-controversial second Test, and have taken a 2-0 lead.
