A backbone of the Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) batting in their inaugural season last year, South Africa's Quinton de Kock is yet to take the field in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. De Kock, who joined late due to international commitments, is sitting on the bench with management preferring in-for Kyle Mayers to open the batting with KL Rahul.

The wicket-keeper batter slammed 508 runs in IPL 2022, top-scoring with 140. Talking about sitting out of the playing XI this season, de Kock said he is quite relaxed. LSG won their last encounter against Rajasthan Royals by 10 runs on Wednesday night.

De Kock, 30, spoke with Star Sports, indulging more on what he has been up to on the sidelines, apart from making more friends and enjoying the LSG teammates' play.

Here's what QDK said

"It's been quite relaxed. I'm not quite used to being on the side for so long but it's all good - the team's doing really well so I guess that's the most important thing. It's been chilled. I've made a couple more friends sitting on the side, learned a lot more with the boys and it's been fun watching the guys."

Skipper Rahul, speaking at the toss, did show his sympathises for de Kock, calling it an unfortunate situation.

Giants are second in the IPL 2023 points table, behind Royals, who are ahead on a better net run rate.
