Sunil Narine Backs Rahane As KKR Skipper
Within just two days left for the IPL 2025, Kolkata is set to cheer loud for the Knights and the madness is already sky high. As the city has already welcomed the Knights, fans are eagerly waiting to cheer for them donning KKR jersey.
In an exclusive event conducted by Parimatch, OneCricket’s senior correspondent Anurag Dasgupta had a chat with Narine. In that conversation, he shdeded light on former coach Gautam Gambhir and newly appointed captain Ajinkya Rahane.
Narine On Gautam Gambhir
Since the early of the Indian Premier League, Sunil Narine has been an undetachable part of the Kolkata Knight Riders. A crucial figure in his IPL journey has been Gautam Gambhir, who played a pivotal role in shaping his career. With Gambhir mentoring KKR to their IPL triumph last season, Narine now feels his absence will be deeply felt, calling him a big miss.
“Obviously GG has his ways in cricket. He has been very successful in IPL. So, he will be a big miss. But he will still be backing us from behind.” Narine said.
On the Newly Appointed Captain, Rahane
After Iyer’s exclusion, the captaincy tug of war was hard between Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer. However, KKR management placed their trust in Rahane’s experience and leadership track record, handing him the reins. When asked about the the new captain, Sunil Narine backed Rahane, believing his experience will guide the team forward.
“I think Rahane is a very experienced cricketer and also a captain. He has a big responsibility on him. But he also has senior players and guts who have done it in past over and over. Hopefully, I know we are gonna gel together, it’s just about those combinations and winning cricket games is the most important thing.” he added.
As the toutrnament is going live on the big stage on March 22, Kolkata Knight Riders are set to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the inaugural match of the cash-rich league. The clash will be unmissable as both franchises will be targeting the first win of the season under new captain.
