The ongoing IPL match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Mumbai Indians has reached an interesting phase with the home side, Royals needing 218 runs to seal the win and stay alive in the tournament. However, when RR came out to bat, the visiting side made a tactical decision which could potentially prove to be a master-stroke.

Normally, when Mumbai Indians field, they always sub-off Rohit Sharma as the former skipper is only used when the team is batting. However, when RR started off the chase, Rohit was still on the field.

Why MI didn't sub-off Rohit Sharma?

RR is one of those teams who have a strong opening pair in the form of Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The duo tore apart the GT attack in the last match and perhaps Rohit stayed at the crease to stop the duo.

Rohit, was a shrewd leader in the IPL and has a brilliant tactical brain, the best in his team. Had the openers stayed for the first 6 overs, they would have swung the pendulum in RR's favour. Hence, perhaps to guide the bowlers and where to bowl at right lines and lengths, Rohit stayed at the crease.

Also, for India, he opens alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal and knows his strengths and weaknesses, which he might have told the MI bowlers and they exploited it to perfection.

RR in deep trouble as half the side back

Chasing 218, RR needed q quick-fire start from their opening duo, just like the last game. However, disaster struck as centurion from last match, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was dismissed for a duck, and Jaiswal followed him back soon.

Nitish Rana, Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer followed them soon as in the blink of an eye, RR lost half the side, still needing 162 off 87 balls to chase a tricky target.
