The atmosphere at the Wankhede Stadium took a surprising turn during the IPL 2024 clash between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) when MI captain Hardik Pandya stepped up to bowl, only to be greeted by a chorus of boos from the home crowd.

To keep up with the hard earned winning momentum, MI hosted RCB at the Wankhede Stadium earlier today. Home captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first. 

Pandya reaped the rewards of his choice as Jasprit Bumrah removed the dangerous Virat Kohli early. Regardless, despite quick wickets in powerplay, RCB captain Faf du Plessis kept the scoreboard ticking with an anchor innings.

That being said, Wankhede Stadium was jam-packed for the high-octane clash. However, the atmosphere took a drastic turn as soon as home captain Hardik Pandya turned up to bowl.

Right after a strategic timeout, Pandya came in to bowl the 10th over, only to witness a hostile reception. As the venue DJ announced Pandya’s bowling change, the crowd erupted in loud boos.

Notably, the booing incident that started in Ahmedabad continued to follow Hardik Pandya at every venue. 

MI fans, displeased by the transition of captaincy, used boos as a medium to express their dissent against the franchise’s decision to replace Rohit Sharma.

Despite several efforts by the franchise, commentators, and Rohit himself, the crowd hasn’t come easy on Hardik, who is struggling to lead MI to victories this season.

Regardless, Hardik Pandya can still win over the fans’ hearts by stacking up some wins and noteworthy performances as the IPL 2024 season progresses.
