Usama Mir dropped probably the easiest catching opportunity of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 on Friday (October 20). Playing his first match of the marquee tournament, the young spinner made a mess of a sitter that Australian left-hander David Warner provided him at the mid-on region off a top-edge against Pakistan speedster Shaheen Afridi.

As Warner shaped up to hit the tall left-arm quick towards the mid-wicket region, the delivery from Shaheen bounced too high on the veteran opener's attempted pull shot, which he could only miscue towards the close-in fielder.

Placed at mid-on, Usama was right underneath the ball when it ballooned in the air and reached his hands. However, the youngster woefully dropped the sitter and turned into a laughing stock on social media, causing great frustration to Pakistani fans while being fodder for the jokes and memes elsewhere.

Usama Mir Drops A Sitter To Give Warner Reprieve

It was the kind of catch fielders execute at the international stage with their eyes closed. But Usama wasn't up to scratch with the opportunity, which left the 27-year-old absolutely shattered and embarrassed in front of a healthy crowd gathered at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

Neither skipper Babar Azam nor pacer Shaheen could believe what had just transpired as Usama fumbled on the easiest catching chance of the entire tournament. Even Warner couldn't have believed his great fortune in the moment after seemingly giving up fate upon top-edging the attempted pull shot.

Warner couldn't get on top of the steep-rising delivery from Shaheen and got a thick edge that flew perfectly in the direction of the mid-on fielder. The left-hander would've been ready to walk off the pitch for his dismissal. However, just then his eyes lit up seeing Usama badly mess up.

It was the last thing Pakistan would've wanted to happen to their young wristspinner after bringing him in as a replacement for struggling Shadab Khan. Even before the 27-year-old rolled his arms over against the Aussies, he suffered a major confidence downer with the drop catch.
