Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer landed confident strokes during his counterattacking run-chase partnership with Virat Kohli against New Zealand. Turning up for his side in Dharamsala for their high-profile World Cup 2023 standoff, the cricketer belted six boundaries in his 33-run knock until he was done by a short ball from Trent Boult against the run-of-play.

Iyer was caught out by Devon Conway at deep square leg during the 22nd over of the Indian innings, thus paving the way for KL Rahul to join forces with Virat Kohli.

Shreyas Iyer done-in by a well-directed short ball

Shreyas Iyer, who notched up unbeaten match-winning scores against Afghanistan and Pakistan in the ongoing 2023 World Cup, arrived at the crease at 76-2 against an unbeaten New Zealand side on a lively Dharamsala surface.

The 28-year-old became the aggressor during his 52-run counterattacking partnership with Virat Kohli, and the star number four ended up chipping in with 33 confident runs from his end. However, against the run-of-play, Iyer failed to control his pull shot against a well-directed short ball from Trent Boult.

In his attempt to clear the ropes, Shreyas Iyer ended up finding Devon Conway around the deep square leg region instead.

Shreyas Iyer’s untimely dismissal worsened India’s troubles at 128-3 inside 22 overs. Earlier in the innings, opening batsmen Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill both provided their side with an ideal launchpad in their run-chase with a rapid 71-run partnership.

However, the two cricketers perished at the hands of Lockie Ferguson in quick succession to make way for Shreyas Iyer in the crease.
