Virat Kohli Reaches 'This' Big Milestone Against New Zealand In Dharamsala

Bonafide legend with the bat, Virat Kohli on Sunday (October 22) etched himself in the record books as an outfielder as well, completing 150th catch in his One-Day International career for India during the ICC World Cup 2023 marquee clash with New Zealand in Dharamshala.

The batting maestro reinforced his class as a fielder, too, by achieving an incredible feat against the BlackCaps at the scenic HPCA Stadium in Himachal Pradesh. Kohli became only the fourth cricketer in the history of the ODI game to bag the special landmark.

The stalwart reached the 150th mark in his catching tally with the dismissal of New Zealand centurion Daryl Mitchell in the closing stages of the Kiwi first-innings batting effort. As Mitchell miscued his attempted big shot off seamer Mohammad Shami towards the long-on region, Kohli quickly covered the ground and made a tricky catching opportunity look easy.

The great cricketer had to run from wide of the traditional long-on post and grab the opportunity while still on the move, needing to turn his head slightly backwards for the catch and the ninth wicket in the Blackcaps innings.

Virat Kohli Achieves Special Landmark

Kohli unveiled his impressive fielding effort on the penultimate ball of the 50th over. Mitchell, who was batting on 130 off 126 at the time after playing a magnificent knock to guide New Zealand to a competitive 273/10 on a two-paced surface, miscued his attempted maximum off a slower ball from Shami to long-on and had one of India's better outfielders placed there to be out eventually.

Mitchell had a slight window of opportunity to survive the mistimed slog over the long-on but even that was denied to him by Kohli after the former India skipper made a valiant feast of the wicket-taking chance.

Any other cricketer on the park would've been a touch slow to move off the turf and would've required a harder effort to secure the grab. But the super fit Kohli made it look comfortable and achieved a special landmark in his career as an outfielder for India.

It's a skill for which Kohli is seldom credited even as the ever-determined cricketer has been willing to field wherever he has been required and worked extensively hard on improving his fielding prowess over the years.
