[Watch] Steve Smith 'Falls Cheaply' As Glenn Phillips Proves Too Hot To Handle

Steve Smith is a player who is known for his consistency and often brings his A-game onto the table in big tournaments like World Cup. However, he has not been able to deliver to his standards in World Cup 2023 and once again, in the game against the Kiwis, he departed cheaply on 18 off 17 balls.

A big platform was laid by a belligerent opening stand of 175 between Warner and Head and it looked like Australia will run away with the game. However, Glenn Phillips with his clever off-breaks has brought New Zealand back in the game with three big wickets, the final one being of Steve Smith.

It was the 30th over of Australia's innings and with mid off inside the circle, Smith tried to get one over the in-field for a boundary. Actually, Marsh was pretty timid at the other end and that forced Smith to go for a big shot, which eventually led to his downfall. It was a full delivery on off and just like Warner, Smith tried to lift it over mid off. He failed to clear the fielder though and ended up handing an easy catch to Trent Boult.
