The last group-stage match between RCB and Mumbai Indians is underway at the Brabone Stadium in Mumbai. The inaugural winners won the toss and asked Smriti Mandhana-led side to bat first. It is a dead rubber match as RCB have crashed out of the tournament while MI have qualified for the playoffs as well.
Smriti Mandhana Dejected After Her Dismissal
Despite the match holding no value, a win is crucial for Mumbai Indians as a victory would see them pip Delhi Capitals at the top of the table and directly qualify for the finals. Talking about the ongoing match, RCB, batting first, had nothing to lose and played in a similar style. Smriti and Sabbhineni Meghana stitched a 41-runs opening stand.
Meanwhile, Mandhana was the star with the bat as RCB captain scored a brilliant 53 (37), which featured six fours and three sixes. She returned to the pavilion on the 5th ball of the 12th over when Shabnim Ismail made no mistake at the boundary ropes and Amelia Kerr got rid of the southpaw.
Earlier in the over, Mandhana got a lifeline after Sanskriti dropped a dolly and returned to the dug-out with injury. Smriti failed to capitalise the opportunity and failed to convert her fifty into a big score. She was dejected after getting out and expressed it on the field as she was walking back. A Season To Forget For Smriti Mandhana
Mandhana has been at the centre of trolls for her poor performance with RCB this season. Under her guidance, the defending champions won the first two matches but then went onto lose five straight matches.
Talking about Mandhana's individual performance, then the southpaw has amassed just 197 runs in eight innings, averaging just 24.63. This was her second fifty-plus score of the season and her best performance came against Delhi Capitals in the 2nd match of WPL where she scored 81 (47).
