The tide was favouring the Sri Lankan side in the Super 4 stage of Asia Cup 2023 when Pakistan's leg-spinner and unarguably their best fielder Shadab Khan broke the second wicket partnership with a catch of his own bowling.

Sri Lanka were 77 for one after the end of 13 overs when Shadab came to bowl his third over of the game and struck immediately on the second delivery as he bagged the wicket of opener Pathum Nissanka for 29 while breaking the 57-run stand.

It was a pitched-up delivery to which the batter tried to play it down the ground by coming close to the ball as he used his feet but didn't get the elevation he required to play it over the bowler's head and instead played it back to him who grabbed an outstanding catch to pull Pakistan back into the game.

The wickets were hard to come by for the Men in Green, and it proved to be a crucial breakthrough as Nissanka was looking good but, unfortunately, couldn't continue his innings.

Shadab, on the other hand, was involved in the first wicket that fell as he fielded brilliantly to run out Kusal Perera when the team's score was just 20.

Pakistan batted first and scored 252 in the rain-curtailed encounter, with Abdullah Shafique, Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed putting up the show with the bat. Later, Sri Lanka returned strongly with the bat and by the end of 37 overs, they were 219 for four.
