'Responsibility Doesn't Lie..'- Shakib Reacts Furiously To Bangladesh’s Asia Cup Exit

Following their elimination from the Super Four stage in the Asia Cup 2023, Bangladesh's ODI captain Shakib Al Hasan stressed that the responsibility for success should not be shouldered by him alone, as every team member bears a distinct role and responsibility.

Shakib highlighted the importance of collective effort in the pre-match press conference of the India versus Bangladesh match, stating that everyone must fulfil their respective roles for the team to perform well. He also expressed optimism that with the active contributions of all team members, they stand a good chance of achieving success.

"Look, the responsibility does not lie on my shoulders, because everyone has some kind of responsibility. I am sure everyone will work to fulfil his part and if everyone can contribute, only then we have a good chance to do well, and if we can add all the individual performance together, only at that point can we do well. They haven't contributed that much and they know that. They are trying to do that,”  Shakib Al Hasan said in the press conference on September 14.

Shakib said that the primary objective of his team is to secure a victory in the match against India, considering it a positive outcome for the Bangla Tigers. He admitted the team's batting performance has been below par in the Asia Cup, but he remains hopeful that they can make a comeback in their upcoming series against New Zealand.

“Yes, there are things to gain. If we can win the last match before returning to the country, it would be a good thing. We don't want anything else from the match, just the win will do. I don't know (whether the Asia Cup performance will affect us or not). Yes, it's disappointing that we haven't batted as well as we would have liked but we may be able to come back in the next series,”  Shakib added.

Bangladesh's dismal campaign came to an end after the defeats in their Super Four encounters against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. These losses have effectively eliminated them from contention for a spot in the final, where India awaits as the other finalist.

With their hopes of clinching the Asia Cup shattered, Bangladesh will be eager to experiment with new combinations in their upcoming match against the Men in Blue in Colombo on Friday, September 15.
