Ruturaj Gaikwad played one of the best knocks of his life on Tuesday (November 28) in India’s third T20I of the five-match series against Australia in Guwahati. The 26-year-old stylish opener notched his maiden T20I hundred in style, slamming Glenn Maxwell for a thunderous six on the 52nd ball of his innings.


Gaikwad took 21 balls for his first 21 balls after the Men in Blue were invited to bat first by Matthew Wade & Co. in their do-or-die encounter. Then he changed his gear, taking charge against whoever came in front of him, as he finished on 123 off 57 balls. He left the crowd gobsmacked with 13 fours and seven sixes in his entertaining performance.

Against all odds, Wade brought Maxwell into the attack to finish things off. The Australian all-rounder did not bowl a single over before that, and bringing in that late against a well-set Gaikwad raised many eyebrows.

In the most perfect manner, Gaikwad slammed Maxwell over deep mid-wicket for a glorious six to get to three digits. Notably, it was also his first century in international cricket.

India, meanwhile, closed their innings on 222/3 in 20 overs. Those who forgot, Gaikwad slammed seven sixes in an over on this very same date last year in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Hence, it is safe to say that November 28 is going to be a very special day for him.
