Ace Sri Lankan speedster Matheesha Pathirana showcased his fielding skills during Chennai Super Kings' ongoing IPL 2024 clash against Delhi Capitals at the ACA-VDCA stadium in Visakhapatnam. Stationed at short third man, the Lankan prodigy grabbed a sensational flying catch to send DC's well-set opener David Warner packing.

The incident occurred in the ninth over of the Capitals' innings when the defending champions were searching for a breakthrough following Warner's initial onslaught

CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad's decision to hand the ball to Mustafizur Rahman paid off, as the left-arm seamer dismissed Warner, who was looking rock-solid in the middle.

Moreover, it was the acrobatic catch from Pathirana that spread like wild fire in the social media.

It was a full length delivery outside the off stump from Mustafizur, as Warner went for an audacious reverse scoop shot. As he hit the ball in the air, Pathirana flew towards his right, holding on to a sensational catch.

His exceptional effort spoke volumes for his fielding attributes, which generally get overshadowed by his death bowling skills.

After Warner's departure, his opening partner Prithvi Shaw also perished while playing a cut shot off Ravindra Jadeja. As of writing, the Capitals were 105 for two in 11.2 overs, with Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant batting on 2* and 3*, respectively.
