Marcus Stoinis does not often show his excellence on the field, or perhaps the situations do not demand it. However, on Thursday, what he pulled off during the Melbourne Stars’ Big Bash League (BBL) clash against Hobart Hurricanes will be remembered for ages.

At Bellerive Oval, Hobart, the Hurricanes’ Macalister Wright was in sublime touch, smashing 33 off just 18 balls with three fours and two sixes. Then Usama Mir came into bowling and gifted a juicy full toss to Wright.

The ball was bound to be sent out of the park, but Wright did not get the timing right. It was supposed to be a one-bounce four, but Stoinis, placed at deep mid-wicket, threw his body on air to take one of the best catches in the tournament’s history.

Unsurprisingly, the crowd was delighted to see their beloved ‘big boy’ putting up a valiant effort, and that too in a successful manner.

Glenn Maxwell-led Stars, who also have Haris Rauf in the mix, are not having the best campaigns thus far, having lost three out of four outings. However, as of now, things are in control against the Hurricanes, who have reached 96/4 after 12.5 overs.
