Shardul Thakur is known as man with the golden arm and rightly so. He has the knack of picking important wickets when people least expect him to and over the years, has produced many match-winning performances. Ravi Ashwin was preferred over him in India's opening game of World Cup 2023 against the Aussies but Shardul is back for the game against the Afghans and has straightaway made an impact with a brilliant catch of Gurbaz and a big wicket of Rahmat Shah.

Talking about the wicket of Rahmat Shah, it was a short of full-length delivery that swung nicely into middle and leg, enticing Rahmat Shah to drive it away. He, however, missed the ball completely and got hit on the pads. A big appeal from Shardul Thakur followed and the umpire eventually raised his finger, bringing huge cheers at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The pitch is pretty good though for batting but Indian bowlers have done brilliantly to pick wickets at regular intervals and Afghanistan have lost three big wickets with just 63 runs on the board.
