Indian wicketkeeper KL Rahul broke down in tears as Australian players gathered around the pitch to celebrate their 2023 World Cup win at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

Earlier in the game, Rahul top-scored for India with a cautious 66, and had a formed a crucial 67-run partnership with Virat Kohli as the duo anchored the innings together following Rohit Sharma’s opening blitzkrieg.

After Glenn Maxwell notched up the winning runs for his country, his teammates rushed towards the ground and converged around him and Marnus Labuschagne as the victorious Australian bunch celebrated their World Cup 2023 triumph.

The Indian contingent, as one can expect, wore contrasting emotions owing to their crushing defeat on the big day. Wicketkeeper KL Rahul even seemingly broke down near the pitch, as the senior Indian cricketer was spotted kneeling and covering his face after the demoralising loss.

KL Rahul scored 66 runs from 107 balls earlier during the Indian innings, after making his way to the crease in just the 11th over of the match. Forming an alliance with Virat Kohli at 81-3, the two cricketers registered counterattacking half-centuries and extended India’s total near the 150-run mark.

Rahul was eventually dismissed at the hands of Mitchell Starc during the backend of the Indian innings, following which the lower order had to crawl its to 240 runs by the end of their 50 overs.

Australia romped their way to the total with seven overs intact in the game, with Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne playing starring roles with the bat following an intense start.

Apart from KL Rahul, fellow seniors Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Siraj also wore dejected looks on their faces as India's unbeaten World Cup 2023 campaign came to a crashing end on the big day.
