Joe Root continued his good form in the ongoing World Cup with a scintillating performance against Bangladesh on Tuesday (October 10). The stylish middle-order batsman, who made 77 against New Zealand in the tournament opener in Ahmebdad, scored another fascinating half-century against Bangladesh during Match 7 of the competition at HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala.

In fact, at the time of writing, he is on the verge of convert it into a memorable three-digit score, having reached 81 off just 64 balls.

Among Root's audacious shots, the one he hit against Mehidy Hasan Miraz caught a lot of attention. It came in the 21st over of England’s innings, when Root shimmed down the track and played straight over Miraz’s head nonchalantly for a wondeful four.

The lofted drive was beautifully timed, and Root held his pose until the ball crossed the boundary rope.

In the process, Root became England's leading run-scorer in ODI World Cups. The 32-year-old has crossed 900-run mark at the time writing, beating Graham Gooch's tally of 897. Ian Bell is third in this chart, having aggregated 718 runs over the years.

At the time of writing, England are batting on 306/3 in 41.2 overs, with Joe Root and Harry Brook in the middle.

However, Root's innings ended just before the milestone, as Mushfiqur Rahim took a simple catch to end Root's stay after a well-made 67-ball 82.
