Known for being one of New Zealand’s most clinical players across formats, Mitchell Santner made headlines on Monday during their World Cup 2023 fixture against the Netherlands at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. The Kiwi all-rounder went berserk with the bat, slamming as many as 13 runs off the last ball of the innings to take his side to 322/7.

It was an over-the-waist high full toss by Bas de Leede, which Santner picked up perfectly after hanging back at the crease. The Kiwi all-rounder drove it over a deep backward point, giving the impression that it was a lovely six to watch. However, when the leg-umpire declared it a no-ball, the situation improved for him even more.

Bas de Leede came with another full toss to finish things off, although this time it was a low one. Santner smashed it over long-on to make it two in a row, while de Leede was angry at himself for bowling two lacklustre deliveries.

At the time of writing, the Netherlands are on 25/1 at the end of seven overs. They still require 298 runs to see off the target, with Colin Ackermann and Max O'Dowd in the middle.
