In the electrifying clash between New Zealand and Pakistan at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during the ICC World Cup 2023, Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson's bat sang a magnificent tune. Williamson was on the brink of a remarkable comeback century, but his dreams were shattered in a heart-wrenching moment that left New Zealand fans in despair.

In the 34.2 nd over, facing a flighted delivery from Iftikhar Ahmed around off, Williamson decided to take a high-risk shot. Stepping out of the crease, he attempted to launch the ball straight back over the bowler's head, aiming for a six that would have sealed his century in style.

However, cricket is a game of fine margins, and this inch-perfect contest had its share of drama. The ball struck the outside half of Williamson's bat, preventing it from reaching the required elevation and distance.

As hearts raced, Fakhar Zaman stationed at long-off sprinted to his right, showing great athleticism and took a brilliant catch just inches from the boundary rope. The entire stadium held its collective breath as Williamson fell agonizingly short of his century, departing for 95 runs.

It was a gut-wrenching moment for him and his fans, but his innings had already laid the foundation for New Zealand to set a formidable target, showcasing the mettle of the Kiwi skipper and the tantalizing nature of the World Cup.
