Fortune Barishal’s Pakistan import Ahmed Shehzad claimed a stunning catch at deep midwicket during his side’s BPL 2024 league game against Durdanto Dhaka at Chattogram. While Shehzad’s sensational fielding effort handed teammate Keshav Maharaj his first wicket of the innings, the Pakistan batsman also nearly injured himself in the process.

Interestingly, his recent catch also recalled memories of a similar effort he made during his active days in international cricket for Pakistan, with one major difference between the two instances.

Shehzad’s BPL 2024 catch reminisced of a previous blunder

Durdanto Dhaka opener Mohammad Naim clubbed a boundary and a six off the first three balls of his side’s run-chase, before he was holed out by Fortune Barishal’s Ahmed Shehzad at deep midwicket.

Shehzad made a diving effort to his front to hold onto a dipping ball, thus assisting Keshav Maharaj in getting the first Dhaka wicket of the innings. The 32-year-old Pakistani cricketer also nearly injured himself in the process, as he fell on his chest and seemingly felt some intense pain.

As it turned out, Ahmed Shehzad’s sensational grab at the PSL 2024 was also reminiscent to one of his older fielding efforts, back when he was a regular member of the Pakistan cricket team. The effort in question involved Shehzad making a similar dive, at the same exact fielding position, only for him to grass the ball before claiming it to be a “clean catch”.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Shehzad’s BPL 2024 diving effort triggered a top-order batting collapse for Durdanto Dhaka, as they slumped from 10-0 to 50-5 in their run-chase. Fortune Barishal eventually prevailed in the contest by 27 runs to register their fifth win of the tournament.

Shehzad along with the rest of his Barishal teammates will now face Sylhet Strikers in match number 35 of the ongoing BPL 2024 season on February 17.
