Babar Azam demonstrated his batting might against a rampaging Kagiso Rabada in the third ODI of Pakistan’s three-match series against South Africa. Batting at number three and arriving to the crease inside the opening over of the match at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, Babar scorched the legendary South African speedster through the covers to get off the mark in style.

Earlier in the same over, Rabada toppled Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique for a first-ball duck to justify captain Temba Bavuma’s call of fielding first in the dead-rubber.

Babar Azam towers over Kagiso Rabada before rain delay

Pakistan batting icon Babar Azam dispatched Kagiso Rabada’s back-of-a-length delivery outside off-stump through the covers to get off the mark in the first over of the match. The ball pierced the gap between South African fielders inside the ring and crashed on to the boundary ropes in front of point.

Babar Azam arrived into the crease in just the third ball of the match, mere moments after the downfall of Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique. Remarkably, Shafique fell for a first-ball duck to Kagiso Rabada, to record his third successive scoreless innings in the series.

As it turned out, rains halted the proceedings at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg just after 3.1 overs of play.

Earlier in the series, Babar Azam belted 73 runs from 95 balls and formed a 115-run third-wicket partnership with captain Mohammad Rizwan in the second ODI match at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. The innings turned out to be a match-winning one for the visitors, allowing Rizwan’s troops to seal the series with a game to spare.
