India's former opening batter Shikhar Dhawan had a unfortunate start to his maiden Nepal Premier League season, being dismissed cheaply by Canadian off-spinner Harsh Thaker in the third league-stage match between Janakpur Bolts and Karnali Yaks. Renowned as one of the finest stroke-players in white-ball cricket, Dhawan struck 14 runs before Thaker got his prized scalp.
The incident occurred in the fifth over of the Yaks' innings after they won the toss and opted to bat first. They had a forgettable start to their innings, losing opener Dev Khanal to Nepal's famed bowler Lalit Rajbanshi. However, despite losing his opening partner, India's legendary batter Shikhar Dhawan struck three glorious boundaries to get the crowd going.
But unfortunately, the veteran cricketer couldn't convert his start into a significant score, with off-spinner Harsh Thaker dismissing him in the fifth over. Dhawan, who looked sublime during his brief stay, was castled by Thaker for a run-a-ball 14. However, despite losing the star batter, Karnali Yaks managed to breach the 140-run mark, thanks to valuable knocks from Gulshan Jha, Arjun Gharti and captain Sompal Kami.
Janakpur Bolts Beat Karnali Yaks By 8 Wickets
Chasing a moderate target of 142 runs, Janakpur Bolts had a blistering start to their innings, with skipper Anil Sah and Aasif Sheikh adding 84 runs in 9.4 overs for the first wicket. After Sheikh departed for 36, Lahiru Milantha and Jimmy Neesham supported Sah, guiding the Bolts to a commanding win. With this emphatic victory, the Bolts consolidated their top position in the standings.
