Nitish Rana, the former KKR player who was bought for 4.20 crore by Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2025 mega auction, experienced a disappointing outing in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The southpaw was dismissed for a golden duck in the match between Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

At 30 years old, Rana has struggled in recent SMAT matches, often scoring in single digits. In this recent game, coming in at number 3, Rana was sent back to the pavilion by Abid Mushtaq without scoring any runs.

As the match is ongoing at the time of writing, the Jammu and Kashmir team, led by Paras Dogra, won the toss and chose to bowl first at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in BKC, Maharashtra. Uttar Pradesh opener Madhav Kaushik had a poor start, scoring only 2 runs off 9 deliveries. Aryan Juyal managed to score 19 runs before being dismissed, leaving UP in a difficult position at 29/2.
