Nitish Rana, the former KKR player who was bought for 4.20 crore by Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2025 mega auction, experienced a disappointing outing in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The southpaw was dismissed for a golden duck in the match between Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

At 30 years old, Rana has struggled in recent SMAT matches, often scoring in single digits. In this recent game, coming in at number 3, Rana was sent back to the pavilion by Abid Mushtaq without scoring any runs.

Nitish Rana Fails To Play A Responsible Inning

As the match is ongoing at the time of writing, the Jammu and Kashmir team, led by Paras Dogra, won the toss and chose to bowl first at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in BKC, Maharashtra. Uttar Pradesh opener Madhav Kaushik had a poor start, scoring only 2 runs off 9 deliveries. Aryan Juyal managed to score 19 runs before being dismissed, leaving UP in a difficult position at 29/2.

Nitish Rana was expected to take on the responsibility of anchoring the innings and guiding the team towards a challenging total, but he fell for a golden duck to Mushtaq. Meanwhile, Priyam Garg attempted to stabilize the innings with a score of 22.

Rinku Singh and Sameer Rizvi made contributions of 24 and 25 runs, respectively. Shivam Mavi played a commendable innings, scoring 45 off 15 balls, which helped UP reach a respectable total of 157/6 in 20 overs.

For Jammu and Kashmir, Murugan Ashwin was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for just 24 runs, demonstrating an impressive economy rate of 6.0. Abid Mushtaq and Rasikh Dar Salam also contributed by taking 2 and 1 wickets, respectively, effectively restricting UP to a decent total.
