Rangpur Riders take on Sylhet Strikers in Match 7 of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 as the Dhaka leg of the competition intensifies. The Riders and Strikers aim for the first win of the tournament after facing disappointment in their respective opening games. 

While the Riders suffered a defeat at the hands of Fortune Barishal on Saturday (January 20), the Strikers lost their bout with Chattogram Challengers a day earlier at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.

Rangpur Riders 

For the Riders, the absence of premier allrounder Shakib Al Hasan will pose a serious headache to the Nurul Hasan-led side. Shakib, who made his return to competitive duties last match, will be missing the Riders' last game of the Dhaka leg due to his persistent eye troubles.

The esteemed cricketer travels to Singapore to get his eyes checked after facing vision issues since the start of the ICC World Cup 2023 in October-November.

In Shakib's absence, the Riders have the chance to make a like-for-like swap in allrounder Fazle Mahmud with his left-hand batting and left-arm spin bowling. Mahmud has played two ODIs for the senior Bangladesh men's side.

Sylhet Strikers 

The Strikers would be hoping for more incisive and wicket-taking bowling from their arsenal after conceding a stiff target of 178 with relative ease against the Challengers, who reached home with seven wickets intact and an over to spare in the run-chase. 

None of the Strikers bowlers struck the code on the night, although the overseas pairing of Harry Tector (0/16) and Richard Ngarava (1/17) showed some discipline and managed leash on the run-flow at their end. 

The onus would once again fall on their batters to post a sizeable total and ease the life for Strikers' weaker suit. Young batter Zakir Hasan top scored in the last game with his brilliant 70 not out off 43 balls and was ably supported at the task by the opening pair of Mohammad Mithun (40) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (36).

Dhaka should assist the spinners a lot in what is an afternoon game between the Riders and the Strikers.
