Pakistan cricket is going through a tough phase currently, and there is pressure on players and other stakeholders to produce positive results. The team is now gearing up for the Test series against South Africa, while the premier red-ball competition of the country, the Quaid e Azam Trophy, also got underway on October 6.
The first round is completed now, and many big players from Pakistan performed well for their respective teams. Thus, in this article, we will look at the notable performers among the big international players in the round one of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
Mohammad Rizwan
Mohammad Rizwan's form is a good sign for Pakistan ahead of the South Africa series, as the wicketkeeper batter hit an unbeaten 123 for Peshawar against Sialkot region. He walked out to bat at number 5 and, against the likes of Mohammad Ali and Amad Butt, batted with great ease. Thus, Pakistan fans would be hoping that he scores some big runs in the Test series against South Africa too.
Mohammad Haris
Mohammad Haris' form has been a bit indifferent in the T20Is for Pakistan recently. He has not delivered consistently and has not been able to settle at one position in the batting order.
However, domestic cricket provides him with more stability and along with Mohammad Rizwan, Haris also scored an unbeaten hundred. He batted with his usual aggressive approach and scored 100 off just 113 balls, which included 11 fours and four sixes.
Naseem Shah
Naseem Shah has been out of favour at the international level in recent times. He was not part of the Asia Cup 2025 squad, while he also missed out on a place in the Test squad for the home series against South Africa.
The young pacer, though, showed his talent while playing for Lahore Region Whites against Islamabad Region. In the first innings of the game, Naseem Shah picked up a fifer while giving away just 34 runs in his 16 overs.
The pacer got the wicket of Shamyl Hussain, who looked set for the hundred, while he also removed the likes of Hasan Nawaz and Mohammad Nawaz.
Saim Ayub
Saim Ayub, the young southpaw, found himself under a lot of pressure in the Asia Cup because of his poor form. He also got excluded from the Test squad for the South African series.
However, he has now started the domestic season on a positive note. He hit fifties in both the innings (63 and 79) while playing for Karachi Region Blues against Faisalabad Region. He also batted with positive intent in both the innings and looked in great touch, especially in the second outing, where he unleashed three sixes with nine fours.
