In the ongoing IPL 2025 match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium, a major controversy erupted after Ryan Rickelton got a lifeline following an unusual run-out. Notably, on the 5th ball of the 7th over, Zeeshan Ansari got rid of Rickelton after Pat Cummins took a clean catch.

The Men in Orange were celebrating and even Ryan Rickelton had crossed the boundary rope which is when the fourth umpire asked him to wait over a potential no-ball check.

Why Was Rickelton Asked To Bat Again?

For the unversed, it was a fair delivery and the bowler didn't overstep. But rather, the no-ball was given because of keeper Heinrich Klaasen's school boy error. Notably, before the batter played the shot, Klaasen had brought his gloves in front of the wicket, which is a no-ball according to the laws.

It was a rare no-ball as such errors occur during stumping incidents, but on a caught-out, it was arguably the first time when a batter survived because of such kind of a no-ball. Meanwhile, a big controversy erupted as several fans argued that Rickelton had crossed the boundary rope and he shouldn't have been allowed to bat again.

Nonetheless, Rickelton was asked to bat again and he couldn't make big of the opportunity and returned to the pavilion in the next couple of over. Talking about the ongoing match, at the time of writing this article, MI are 76/2 after 8.5 overs.
