England’s star batter Joe Root has once again demonstrated his class in Test cricket, as he scored a remarkable century in the ongoing match against Pakistan at Multan Cricket Stadium. Root’s innings proved crucial for England as he stabilized the team’s innings after an early collapse. 

This latest knock adds another chapter in his illustrious career, as he continues to break records and cement his place as one of England’s most incredible batters.

England Stumble Early After Pakistan’s First Innings Total

Pakistan batted first and set an imposing total of 556 runs. In response, England’s start was less than ideal, as they lost stand-in captain Ollie Pope for a two-ball duck. Pakistan’s bowlers capitalized on the early wicket, putting pressure on England’s top order.

It was Joe Root who stepped in to rescue the team, and entered the crease with England in a precarious situation. As he has done so often, Root displayed his resilience and skill, quickly settling in and crafting a steady innings. His partnership with opener Zak Crawley proved to be the turning point for England.

He added 109 vital runs with Crawley and shifted the momentum in England’s favor. After Crawley departed Root continued to hold the innings and showcased his trademark elegance and shot-making ability. 

Joe Root's Knock Steadies the Ship For England

On the third day of play, Root showcased his impeccable form and moved up the ranks in the list of all-time leading century-makers in Test cricket. In the 63rd over of the England's first innings, Joe Root completed his 35th century. 

With this latest hundred, Root has surpassed legends such as Brian Lara, Sunil Gavaskar, Mahela Jayawardene, and Younis Khan, claiming the sixth spot on this prestigious list.

Earlier with this innings, he became the first batter to score 5,000 runs in the WTC. Additionally, earlier, He equalled Indian legend Rahul Dravid’s tally of fifty-plus scores in Test matches. At the time of writing, England is at 335/3 with Joe Root and Harry Brook present at the crease.
