In a significant development, Sri Lanka have won the toss and elected to bowl first in their World Cup clash against India at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.

At toss, Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis stated that they would chase in this game, considering the nature of the surface. Sri Lanka have made one change to their playing XI, replacing Dhananjaya de Silva with Dushan Hemantha. On the contrary, India, as expected, have gone with an unchanged XI.

At toss, Lankan skipper Kusal Mendis said,

"We have decided to bowl first. I think it will help for batting in the second innings, and hence, we have decided to bowl first. As a team, we have done well, and hopefully, we do well. Three more games left for us with each of them being a crucial one like a semi-final. Only one change. Dhananjaya de Silva is not playing, Dushan Hemantha comes in for him."

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma revealed that India would've batted anyway, saying

"We would have batted first as well. Good pitch and some assistance at the start and it will be nice under lights for our seamers to bowl. It's a great honour and a good moment for me to captain the team where I have grown up playing. But as a team, we strive to keep improving and not get carried away, and stay balanced. Try to tick the boxes whenever we take the field. We are playing with the same team."

Sri Lanka Playing XI: Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis (c and wk), Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Angelo Mathews, Dushan Hemantha, Kasun Rajitha, Maheesh Theekshana, Dilshan Madushanka, Dushmantha Chameera

India Playing XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Lokesh Rahul (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
