On the day 3 of the first test between Australia and Pakistan, Australia have wrested firm control on the game with a huge lead of 216 from the first innings. When the day ended, Australia were 84 for 2 wickets with a total lead of 300 runs.

Batting first, Australia had scored 487 runs before getting bundled out. Pakistan started off well when they were asked to bat at Perth. When the Day 2 ended, Pakistan were 132 for the loss of two wickets with Imam ul Haq and Khurram Shahzad undefeated at the crease. Pakistan batting line up had shown the grit and determination to wipe out the big score.

On Day 3, things did not unfold the way Pakistan wanted. They lost the wicket of debutant Khurram Shahzad at the start of the day. Despite a 48-run partnership between Babar Azam and Imam ul Haq, Mitchell Marsh's dismissal of Babar Azam triggered a short collapse. Babar Azam, Imam ul Haq, and Sarfaraz Ahmed were all dismissed within 14 runs.

Saud Shakeel and Agha Salman prevented Australia from making deeper inroads into their innings as they put together a 35-run stand before Saud Shakeel departed. Agha Salman, along with the tailenders, ensured that they minimized the lead conceded to 216 runs. With the dismissal of Aamer Jamal, Lyon moved just one short of 500 wickets in test cricket.

The centurion in the first innings, David Warner was dismissed in the first over of the second innings whereas Marnus Labuschagne could not weather the Pakistani pace bowling. He was also dismissed for two runs. Australia at one stage, found themselves at 5 for the loss of two wickets. However, Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith made sure to stop Pakistan from steamrolling them. They both stitched up a half century stand to end the day on 84 for 2 wickets.
