In what turned out to be an absolute thriller here in Chandigarh, Punjab Kings won by 16 runs as they defended an unbelievable 111 against Kolkata Knight Riders. Batting first, the Punjab side were knocked over for 111 in just 15.3 overs, where Prabhsimran scored 30 off 15 balls, while Priyansh Arya scored 22 as these two were the highest scores. From the bowling attack, Harshit Rana was fiery with a spell of 3 for 25 in his four overs, while Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine picked up two wickets apiece.
In reply, the Knight Riders were tamed right from the start, as they lost two quick wickets in the form of Sunil Narine and Quinton De Kock in the first two overs, where Punjab dominated. However, after that, skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi stitched a 55-run partnership and that's when they lost their third, which proved to be a meltdown point for the Knights. After Rahane's departure, KKR, who were 62 for two at one stage, were soon reduced to 79 for eight in no time, as wickets kept tumbling one after the other, with Yuzvendra Chahal picking up four wickets for 28 runs in his four overs. In the end, Andre Russell smashed Chahal for 16 runs in his final over, but they soon lost the remaining two wickets as Kolkata were knocked over for a paltry 95, handing Punjab a victory by 16 runs in a tense encounter. Apart from Chahal, Marco Jansen bowled an outstanding spell of 3 for 17 in 3.1 overs, while the rest of the bowlers picked up one wicket each.
