Team India’s senior cricketer KL Rahul got emotional during a live interview on July 25 while talking about his baby daughter, Evaarah. Speaking on the sidelines of the India vs England Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Rahul said it was very hard to leave his family behind to join the national team for the Test series.

Rahul and his wife, Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty, became parents to a baby girl on March 24, 2025. At that time, Rahul took a short break from the IPL to be with his family. 

However, just two days later, he rejoined the Delhi Capitals team and later travelled to England in early June for the 5-match Test series.

KL Rahul Says It’s Hard To Stay Away From Evaarah For 2 Months

Despite performing well in the series, scoring 421 runs with two centuries, KL Rahul admitted that being away from his newborn daughter, Evaarah, has been tough. 

While talking to Cheteshwar Pujara on Sony Sports, Rahul said he had a tough conversation with his family while deciding to leave his daughter behind and play for India A in warm-up games.

“Yeah, it’s a great time in my life for my family. I’ve always loved children. I’ve always wanted children for a long time. So, made me and my family really really happy. We’re in a great place. She’s a beautiful little girl. It’s brought so much happiness into our lives," Rahul said.

But Rahul added that his wife, Athiya, and the family as well supported him. They appreciated how much the England tour meant for his professional career and stood by him.

“I have done a little bit (father duties), but unfortunately, two days after she was born, I had to go play the IPL game. And I tried in whatever breaks we got during the IPL to go back for a couple of days and then finish the IPL. It was really hard to take that decision to come here and play that India A game as well because I had not spent any time with her and I knew when I came here, I won’t see her for another two months," he added.

He also mentioned that he is constantly checking the baby camera to watch his daughter and not miss out on precious moments.

"So, I came here. So, I haven't seen her and I just keep seeing her pictures and I'm always on the baby camera. Making sure I don't miss anything or any part of her growth. So, it's a difficult thing to do when you're traveling and playing and you miss each day. It's not seeing her," Rahul concluded.

As of now, India’s cricket calendar is free after the series ends on August 4, giving Rahul a chance to return home and spend some quality time with his loved ones.

Rahul Reveals Naming Her Daughter Evaarah

KL Rahul earlier revealed the heartfelt story behind naming his daughter ‘Evaarah.’ The name, which means “Gift of God” in Sanskrit, was chosen after Rahul stumbled upon it while going through name books sent by a friend. However, convincing his wife, Athiya Shetty, took some time. The couple introduced the name on Rahul’s birthday, making it even more special as they welcomed their daughter on March 24, 2025.
