The ongoing Manchester Test is spreading the real red-ball thrills as England is dominating the Indian bowlers in the first innings. After a rough patch in recent innings, Joe Root roared back to form with a stunning century, becoming the second-highest run-scorer in Test history.

As Root surpassed Ricky Ponting and scripted Test history, the English opener Ben Duckett's prediction came true. True to Duckett’s call, Root reached triple figures and etched his name in the glorious record book.

Duckett Predicts And Root Performs

Joe Root’s legacy in the longest format of cricket is known to everyone, as the English batting maestro has proved it for a long time. Ahead of stepping into the ongoing Manchester Test, he was eyeing to become the second-highest run getter of Test cricket. And on Day 3, Root named the incredible milestone with brilliance.

But the twist lies in another way, as the England opener turned into a future predictor. Before the day, when asked if Joe Root could reach the milestone, opener Ben Duckett confidently said yes. Fast forward a few hours, and Root delivered a masterclass, turning Duckett’s prediction into reality.

As the England Cricket dropped a video clip, Ben Duckett was seen confidently backing Joe Root to go past several legends.

“Well, there’s not many better days, and I think he goes alright at this ground. He probably says that he doesn’t know about that, but he definitely does. Look, I think when you say that, it’s just pretty cool to share a dressing room with someone like Rooty. Probably the most humble guy to play this sport," remarked Duckett.

"You know, he won’t be thinking that, but at the end of the day, if Rooty scores 100 today, then we’re gonna be in a fantastic position to win the series. That’s probably the most important thing for now,” he added.

Root Closes In On Greatness With Only Tendulkar Left To Surpass

Test format is the greatest format of the game, and some of the cricketers made it even more special, and English batter Joe Root is one of them. Making his debut for England, the batter surpassed many milestones, but the recent hundred against India in Manchester added him to an all-time legend’s list.

After crossing the 121-run mark, he surpassed the Australian great Ricky Ponting and became the second-highest run scorer in Test cricket. That is an incredible milestone in his illustrious Test career. Now, only the legendary Sachin Tendulkar stands ahead with 15,921 runs, and Root has his sights set firmly on that historic top spot.
