England have claimed a dominant victory over Pakistan, defeating them by an innings and 47 runs in the first Test match to secure a 1-0 lead in the three-match series today (October 11). This win at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium has further strengthened England's position in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings, pushing them to fourth place, while Pakistan slips to the bottom.

England’s Record-Breaking Batting Display In The First Test Match

Pakistan in the first innings put up a commendable 556 runs. Shan Masood made a memorable return to the century club, scoring his first Test hundred in over four years.

The match saw England's batters rewrite the record books with an awe-inspiring first innings total of 823 runs. The foundation of this mammoth score was a remarkable triple century from young sensation Harry Brook, complemented by a masterful double ton by veteran Joe Root.

This aggressive and unrelenting approach put England in firm control of the game early on.The Pakistan bowling attack struggled to find any rhythm or control as the flat pitch offered little assistance.

England’s bowlers seized the opportunity to dominate in Pakistan’s second innings. Reduced to 82-6. Pakistan was left in a precarious position, while Agha Salman and Aamer Jamal staged a brief fightback, adding 109 runs in a resilient partnership, England soon found their breakthrough.

With this commanding win, England have solidified their place in fourth position in the WTC standings, achieving a points percentage (PCT) of 45.59%. England’s points tally has been reduced by 19 points due to penalties for a slow over-rate, without which they would have had a PCT of 54.90%.

Nevertheless, their current standing reflects a strong comeback in the WTC race, with aspirations to further ascend the rankings in the ongoing series.

For Pakistan, the defeat is a bitter blow, extending their winless streak at home to eleven matches. This is a new record for Pakistan, who have struggled to regain footing in Test cricket on home soil.

With a PCT of 18.52%, Pakistan now finds itself at the bottom of the WTC standings. Pakistan’s position has been further impacted by an eight-point deduction for slow over-rate offences during the current WTC cycle.
